ZA magazine is designed for young adults worldwide with a keen interest in illustration. Our design choices reflect the progressive and trendy attitude of our target group. The simple yet attention-grabbing nameplate holds the wordmark, issue number, date and UPC code. To ensure consistency, the nameplate’s positioning is absolute, hugging the left edge, wrapping around the spine and to the back cover. A light, sans serif font evokes a modern feel, complimentary of the magazines tone.
The colour of the nameplate will change to compliment the featured cover art; creating a harmonious collection by keeping to a soft, light coloured palette. The spine design is an extension of the name plate, which wraps around to the back cover. The harmonious colour palette is evident when the spines are consecutively arranged. The image on the front cover must be an illustrative piece that conveys a quirky and charming tone. The background must be white and any illustrations bleeding
off the page must extend onto the spine and back cover. If appropriate to the subject matter, the illustration may overlap the nameplate without obstructing the secondary information.
