Studio Usher was hired to create the the key art and title treatment for ‘Novenas for a Lost Hospital’ a performance that chronicled the history of St. Vincent’s Hospital in NYC. The play highlighted the heroism of the Sisters of Charity who founded the hospital in response to a cholera epidemic in 1932 and treated AIDS patients in the 1980's when nobody else would.
The buildings that housed St Vincent's Hospital were recently refurbished and turned into condos. Our title treatment was based on the original floor plans of the old hospital.
We wanted to honor the caretakers and patients of two deadly plagues that were treated at St. Vincents--cholera and AIDS--but to lighten the tone, and evoke New York, we decided to portray a pigeon not a Raven with our skull.
Sold out performances.
