Shapeshifter is New Zealand's most celebrated drum and bass act. Since its founding in 1999 the band has released numerous studio and live albums. The Stars album was released in November 2016. A bespoke visual brand language was developed across the album artwork and collateral.
The album cover features the Westerlund 2 constellation. A nebula in the milky way galaxy where new stars are formed. The cover is constructed through a custom flag and pole, and shot in camera to create a surreal image of day and night in a single take. A bespoke typeface was created out of single star glyphs. On mass it creates a dense typographic galaxy. The combination of elements creates a balance between organic and technical, reflecting the qualities of the shapeshifter sound – digital and analogue.
A limited edition album pack came with a custom boxed original flag from the album cover.
