Always on the look out for potential specimens, I buy flowers from florists, peer over fences, and raid the gardens of friends, including my own. It is often the simplest and most unexpected things that work. Living with them in my home, I observe them until they begin to wilt. Transferring them to my studio, I document their decline, with a minimum amount of light. Images are captured on medium format enabling them to be printed large. The detail in the prints causes me to observe the detail even more closely that I do the specimen.
