Camera: Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246), Lens: Summarit-M 1:2.5/75
Black and white portraits have always been a part of my work. A part, that I really love. Sometimes color in a photo can be distracting, but black and white always brings out the essence of a person: it's all about the emotion and the perfect moment.
The most important thing to know about black and white photography: some motives work very well desaturated, some just don't. I prefer to concentrate on the person in front of my camera. In technical terms that means that I usually use lenses which create a nice depth of field and like to shoot with maximum aperture. But also the approach towards the person is very important. Talk to them, have fun with them or make them think of a special situation, make them open up to you and your camera!
Once the person in front of your camera connects to you, things get personal, but in a good way. Now all I have to do as a photographer is to catch that special moment, that one look on the face.
