David Wondrich, author and cocktail historian, developed a line of cocktail barware in collaboration with Cocktail Kingdom founder, Greg Boehm. This historically inspired collection harks back to traditional cocktail bar tools from the 19th century, utilizing direct reference from the private collections of both industry connoisseurs. The creative team at Cocktail Kingdom was tasked with creating a line of packaging that was as equally striking as the barware itself with inspiration derived from both Victorian and Edwardian eras.
As the David Wondrich Classic Collection was inspired by 19th century barware designs, we wanted to evoke that period in the branding. Typography and packaging cues were drawn from Victorian-era advertisements as well as apothecary labels. Using antique packaging for reference, we printed single color on creamy wood-free paper that was affixed to kraft-wrapped board, recreating an ornate yet practical approach to design that would have been common during the mid-1800s.
The David Wondrich Classic Collection was launched at a punch-themed event hosted by Cocktail Kingdom, with Greg Boehm and David Wondrich as guests of honor. The packaging was used as a headlining display and guided the design of event and marketing collateral. It has been revered by cocktail industry professionals for being both beautifully designed and historically accurate; traits equally applied to the products themselves.
