Big Cat Rescue is home to over 100 abandoned, abused and orphaned exotic cats (such as lions, tigers and many more species.) Our assignment was to create a poster for the Big Cat Rescue Sanctuary that would educate the general public on how the circus may not be good for animals and why people should avoid going. A website was created to give facts about the lifestyle, treatment and unnatural acts these animals are forced to perform at the circus. It was our job to get people to change their view of the circus.
We set out to design a poster that would have a shocking twist. We showed a lion jumping through a flaming hoop, like at the circus. But then revealed a trainer whipping the lion in order to force it to do these unnatural acts. The poster was designed to work as a standard poster and to be placed on corner walls to even better reveal the surprising twist. We hoped people would rethink how they feel about the circus and at least go to the website to learn more details.
This poster was well received by Big Cat Rescue and has elicited a favorable response from people who have seen it while taking a tour of the 55-acre Big Cat Rescue Sanctuary. Traffic has also increased at the website, which is a good sign that the poster is having a positive effect.
