Assignment: Heart of America Motorcycle Enthusiasts (HOAME) is a club dedicated to the preservation, restoration and promotion of vintage motorcycles from around the world. A showcase and competition is presented each year in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, complete with an awards ceremony honoring the most prized examples. Each year, HOAME features a specific subject for it’s marketing materials. In 2013, “Superbikes” were the featured attraction. The goal was to capture the essence and create awareness of this culture in American motorcycle history and to develop an iconic image to be used in all event marketing.
Approach: It was the 1970’s in America. Charlie’s Angels were on television, disco music had taken over the airwaves and superbikes from Japan, Italy, and England were blistering American highways.
The centerpiece of the idea is a classic 1970 Honda CB 750. It was the motorcycle that fueled the superbike scene. Mr. Soichiro Honda himself designed the bike for the American market.
The design of the show poster reflects the California lifestyle of the 1970’s. Casting, typography, wardrobe, styling, use of color and photography all are inspired by 1970’s American culture.
Results: The poster was a success. Client was very pleased. A record number of tickets were sold for the event; poster and merchandise sales topped previous sales of its 21-year history.
