"Birmingham has a fantastic design community and in 2013, three Birmingham designers (two from Lewis) assembled a group of the city's designer practitioners, educators, and thought leaders to create an annual, weeklong celebration of all things design. The fruit of that collaboration—the first ever Design Week Birmingham—was a massive success, even garnering attention from the international design press. For its second year, we sought to honor that idea of success through collaboration with a simple visual metaphor born out of elements of the DWB logotype. Vivid, luminous slashes—representing the various design disciplines—intersect, overlap, and interact. This diverse, incredibly talented community may move in different directions, utilizing different methods and approaches, but when it unites to honor and celebrate the essentialness of design, the resulting energy is vital and electric! The 2014 Design Week materials are the perfect encapsulation of this idea.
