For this assignment the goal was to create a logo for a company in Austin, Texas. The intent for the company created in this project is to provide a safe and welcoming environment where college students can hang out.

My first step was to create a wordlist of things associated with Austin and places that college students would spend their time. After that, I made thumbnail sketches of possible combinations. I settled on a logo that combines a book and a bat. I chose a book to represent how college students are always studying and a bat was chosen because Austin has a large population of bats. This resulted in the creation of a company called Book Bat Cafe. Book Bat Cafe is a 24-hour cafe and lounge where students can safely and comfortably study long into the night.

The final stage of making this logo was selecting colors and choosing a typeface that reflected the company's hip and inviting aura. I chose the orange to represent the school color for The University of Texas at Austin; this reiterates that Book Bat Cafe is designed for college students. I paired the orange with a dark gray to portray a welcoming and modern, but subtle tone. My professor and peers agreed that this mark clearly and effectively communicates this company's brand identity and warm spirit.
