This was a self-assignment. Having discovered that the website Brainy Quotes had several pages of quotations from articles I had written, I decided to do something with some of the quotes myself. I wasn't sure what I would do with them when I was finished but that never concerns me. Once I've done something I always find something to do with it.

I began by deciding to hand letter the words, then to develop a simplified pen and ink style to go with the lettering. The idea was to make the lettering and the drawing parts of the same graphic image. But as I got into it I realized that I didn't have to restrict the drawings to a simplified style as long as it remained a drawing. Paintings wouldn't work.

So far I've done about 30 posters. Several were published in The Baffler magazine and the exposure led to a number of poster and other assignments in which I was asked to hand letter titles and/or copy.
