There wasn't really an image of Mengele that seemed to do the job by itself, and a vast majority of the images of him also had quality concerns. A collage approach became the answer, combining his portrait with familiar haunting images of Auschwitz, bits and pieces of his many passports and aliases from his decades on the run, as well as the somewhat unexpected palm-tree backdrop of Sao Paulo, Brazil, believed to be his final resting place--all nestled within a tightly cropped swastika.
