Our goals for the work include touching every Nebraskan—visually and emotionally. We want to work to increase native Nebraskan pride—we want people to feel something and not be afraid to share that with others.
Everyone should learn at least one thing about Nebraska’s history in celebration of Nebraska’s 150th birthday.
We want to connect the people of Nebraska, urban and rural.
And finally, we want to create a brand that speaks simply to Nebraska’s history, and projects those values into the future.
We want to create a brand celebrating the 150th birthday of the State of Nebraska. By its very nature a Sesquicentennial is a historic event. Celebrated over a year’s time it celebrates all that is past and all that will be. Our work begins with the development of an iconic representation of our state; a logo if you will. Something real. Genuine. Believable. In essence, it will be the look by which official statehood celebration materials, collectibles, and events are marketed and publicized.
Our inspiration came from the Nebraska State Capitol. The Nebraska State Capitol is something that connects with every Nebraskan. Past to present. Present to future. It’s filled with stunning iconography and typographical treatments, including corn.
Nebraska is The Cornhusker State. Let’s celebrate who we are—The Cornhusker State.
The design system received widespread approval from the Governor, First Lady, and the Nebraska Sesquicentennial Commission. Organizations all over Nebraska utilized the logo and design system to promote their events.
