The assignment was to celebrate the 100th anniversary of iconic baseball player Jackie Robinson who on April 15, 1947, broke the color barrier by becoming the first black player to play in the Major Leagues. And in the process raise money for the foundation that bears his name.
The “Desegregated Baseball” demonstrates the racial integration Jackie pioneered–by physically uniting black & white halves of leather to make each baseball.
Made for and sold by the Bergino Baseball Clubhouse, hand-numbered balls were also sold at charity auctions with proceeds donated to the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
