The project was to design a title sequence based on a film of our choosing. The title sequence should set the tone for and allude to themes, characters, and events in the selected film.

chose Midsommar because of the strong visual elements, unique themes, and dynamic characters. Using a super-bloom aesthetic, I wanted to highlight the film’s allusions to life and death along with the idea that it is a horror movie in broad daylight. I followed the story of the main character through the flowers, showcasing her search for belonging, new beginnings, and ultimately her unsuspecting indoctrination.

The end result is a bright and dynamic title sequence that captures the essence of the film. The stop motion creates an uneasiness in the viewer along with the lyrics in the music. The audience is left tense at the end as the music distorts, and creates a feeling of indoctrination just as the main character is in the film. It leaves you with questions just as the film does, should we be happy at the end? Or were we tricked?
