Poster development for “TOMOSHI”, light sculptures made of a single sheet of “Washi” paper. Since Washi was added to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list, our assignment was to create a poster that appeals the originality of Washi paper and the beauty of lamp shades not only to Japanese but also to overseas markets.
Name of the product "TOMOSHI" came from Japanese words “tomosu” or “touka” (light up) that leads to “a peace of mind”. Therefore, the poster design enhanced the simple beauty of Japanese craftsmanship, depicting softness, flexibility and strength of Washi paper. In photo shooting, through camera, we needed to capture and visualize the beauty of this product emitting the light similar to the natural light.
Inquiries from consumers increased after the poster release, and this led to the expansion of the market.
