Deseret News magazine needed an illustration to go with the editorial entitled “The Myth of the Latino vote”. The article focuses on Republican congress and pundits predicting a red wave and that Latinos would be at the forefront in south Texas.
Approach
The wood cut illustration imagines the traditional republican symbol (elephant) with party colors as a traditional Latin motif. The TX 34 stands for the Texas 34th congressional district which is the setting for the editorial article.
