As the nation’s largest accredited sanctuary for abused and abandoned exotic cats, Big Cat Rescue is all about the ethical treatment of animals. So, our assignment was to create a poster that would help educate the public on why petting tiger cubs is not good for the animals. We wanted to show them the real truth – how the cubs are exploited for a profit and once they become too dangerous to pet often go missing – as they are sold, abandoned or even killed.
We came up with this image of a tiger cub made out of a fingerprint in order to make a point. That is, that petting a tiger cub is the number one cause of big cat abuse, because it leads to them to being exploited for one profit after another. Sadly, once they become too big to pet, many are then killed, abandoned or even sold on the black market for their fur, bones and other parts.
This powerful poster is stimulating a lot of talk and discussion. It has brought more attention to the issue of cub petting and helped educate the public on this deceptive way of exploiting exotic animals for a profit. In addition, we are also running digital banner ads, pre-roll video, and PSA spots that further expose the truth about cub petting. Ultimately, we want people to support a ban on cub petting and help pass the Big Cat Public Safety Act -- the most important piece of legislation ever introduced to protect exotic wild cats.
