The assignment was to design an advertisement promoting a social cause with expressive typography being the focus of the ad.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the company promoting a social cause, childhood obesity. The company has many preventative programs that assist minority groups specifically. So, this ad acts as promotional piece displaying the company's mission-- that CDC provides tools and resources to make leaving healthy more accessible to minority groups and in turn prevent childhood obesity from occurring in this specific demographic.
The expressive typography was hand rendered and shaped to look like a nutritional portions of food on a plate. This idea was to again reinforce to the viewer that some may believe that what they're eating could cause obesity but really, minority groups have countless other things that effect and cause obesity to occur at very young ages. By doing this, the viewer is shocked to see and read the negative issues that a child might be facing (or might have on their plate) that is impacting their health.
