Goal was to create a poster for a famous play that featured a typographically manipulated headline.
The play "A Comedy of Errors" features a pair of twins who never interact yet somehow find a way to mess with each other through a series of unfortunate events. I wanted to showcase the duplicative nature of the protagonists and the idea that there is more than what meets the eye. Through brainstorming, I realized a playing card was a perfect visual for showing two opposing yet similar sides. To fit in the type, I had it act as the pattern or design of the card, so the card kept its original form with the characters still being visible.
The result is a unique poster featuring bold, interlocking type on a playing card. The type is the main focus, but enhances the theme and design of the card at the same time. It communicates the comedic and playful nature of the play as well as the duplicity of characters. Clean, flat colors were used as to not distract from the type and secondary designs of the poster.
