The assignment was to design a spec magazine based on a unique culture. I created the cover, masthead, table of contents, editors letter, two feature articles, and four department sections for a total of 24 pages.
Approach
From the beginning I wanted to challenge myself by using an angled grid system. I also felt the angled grid system reflected the uneven terrain of hiking through Costa Rica. I used a mix of unique stock photography with watercolor illustrations to show the vibrant nature of Costa Rica.
Results
Having hiked through Costa Rica, I was anxious to share my experiences. By emerging myself into this project I was able to get a full understanding of graphic story telling through multiple page layouts. By combining type and image and using an unique grid system, I was able to entice the reader and deliver a sense of adventure and travel through the pages of Kallisto magazine.
