A signage audit conducted by Whiteman Park recognised the need for clearer way-finding signage that engaged visitors to make full use of the facilities and attractions available to them. With more than 20 areas assigned to car parks (which fill quickly due to the popularity of the park), easy to follow car park signage became the first priority.
Assigning a colour to each of the four main areas - based on their key attractions and east / west location, a series of numbered sign posts combine Jarrah bases (local hard wood) with bright, lollipop coloured tops to quickly identify the car park, its location within the park and surrounding attractions. Graphically etched into the timber base a pictorial reference of the area serves as a visual reminder for children and adults alike as to where they have parked - blending harmoniously into nature’s background. Additional signage for specific reserve areas, walk trails and children’s forests adapt the same use of colour and graphics throughout the park.
The signage has successfully been installed throughout Whiteman Park and they have continued engaging Dessein to expand these signage solutions. These highlight the Transport Heritage Trail, Woodland Reserve's Interpretation Centre and various other wayfinding signage within the Park.
