The problem for this assignment was to create a three-article magazine revolving around a unified theme. The magazine must incorporate articles using hand rendered skills and found objects, as well as an overall use of typographic, image making, and photographic skills learned throughout the course of my undergraduate study.

I decided to pick a theme that I both was interested in and felt was outside of my comfort zone. I have always been fascinated by the medieval time period, so I thought it would be an appropriate topic due to both my interest in it, as well as my ability to research and learn ample information regarding it. I wanted to experiment as much as possible to create both an aesthetically appealing solution, as well as a unique one.

When it came to my hand rendered cover and article, I chose to experiment with different mediums. I also thought it would be interesting to show something more gruesome to depict the harshness of punishment during the time period. For the found object article, I was able to find extremely interesting tarot cards that I was then able to collage and interact with type. I also researched as much as I could on these topics and interviewed a couple who lives a medieval lifestyle in a real life castle to not only create a visually pleasing magazine, but also an accurate one.
