For this project, I wanted to demonstrate the blend of cultures that is seen throughout the novel. The clothing that is along the clothesline was inspired from both African and Indian cultures, and the houses in the background separated by the river represent the tension that occurred in the novel between housing sectors. The river, lily pads, and bright colors are all relevant to the themes throughout the book.
