The assignment was to design a poster for one of my favorite natural places featuring hand lettering. Original dimensions: 18 by 24 inches.
I chose the Stadium Woods located on Virginia Tech's campus in Blacksburg, VA. It is a rare, old growth forest that has trees growing in it that were alive before the founding of Jamestown! Most old-growth forests are very geographically isolated and require a lot of traveling (and hiking) to visit but this one is right on Virginia Tech's campus and easily accessible to the everyone. The white oak tree is an important species in Stadium Woods ecosystem and there are dozens that are 350 to 400 years old! I used the white oak leaf's lobing to form the custom "Stadium Woods" lettering.
This poster was exhibited at the Words Matter exhibition at the Perspective Gallery in Blacksburg, VA. April 10- May 17, 2019
