This was my Masters Thesis project at the University of Washington. The book is a compilation of tactile typographic studies which were built and documented over a set amount of time. The purpose of this project being an exploration of materials, environment, and the structure of letterforms and the effect time has on legibility.
Written content includes research done on type and legibility. The internal pages of this hand-bound book contains 66 french folded pages and 5 paper types. One paper type being newsprint on the cover. Newsprint is a UV sensitive material and will fade to a yellow-color over time. Taking this reaction into consideration, a wooden case was laser-cut in order to expose the newsprint in specific areas and ultimately results in completing the message Type Over Time.
