This publication of unusual shape is a project made as part of the 100th anniversary of Joseph Beuys’ birth. The publication is a commentary on Beuys' quote: ”Every sphere of human activity - even peeling a potato - can be a work of art, as long as it is a conscious act.“ My question is whether art is just an act of peeling or the final product, i.e. the peel of a potato.

The foundation of the concept of the publication is to present the complex and profound nature of Beuys’ artistic opus in an essential and simple way. The publication is in the form of an elongated reflective box presenting the physical work of art by Joseph Beuys. It mirrors the outside world and presents infinitely complex possibilities for interpretation, just as Beuys' works are complex.
The reader can open this untouchable work of art with a perforation and reveal what the essence of this work is. The reader becomes an artist by opening and intervening in the box.
When the box is opened with a perforation, a wild red interior is revealed, representing both the essence of the artwork as well as Beuys' body and mind itself. The attached magnifying glass takes an even closer look at the content of Beuys' oeuvre.

The publication guides curious readers through its content by peeling off different layers and revealing the essence of Beuys' opus. The moment the reader opens the publication and wants to find out what is inside, the publication is irreparably destroyed.
