Originally named Hercules Candies, Chocolata is a New York based chocolate candy shop that is focuses on educating people of handmade chocolate process.
When renaming the company, I focused on the Greek origin of the family owned candy shop, as well as their specialty of chocolate. In my research, I discovered that 'Sokolata' is the greek word for 'chocolate'. By combining English and Greek, it represents the immigrant family's pursuit of the American Dream.
Another aspect I considered was updating the century old look and feel. By using a geometric sans serif and geometric shapes, it creates a modern look that is ready to propel this business into the next century.
Finally, I had to acknowledge that the family's view on their candy business is to bring joy and happiness to their customers. Therefore a chocolate drip sliding off the 'C' adds personality to the mark. It transforms the geometric shapes and serif from cold and utilitarian into fun and charming.
