Considering The Red Badge of Courage is based off the themes of war and injury, I chose to create a book jacket that resembles the American flag. This book focuses on the main characters role as a soldier in The Civil War and how he believes he needs to get injured in order to be seen as courageous and gain praise from his community. With this in mind, I created the american flag by scanning in medical gauze and then adjusting it's appearance on Photoshop. In addition to this, the soldier pictured is an actual veteran photo from The Civil War.
