The goal was to create key art for Remy Bumppo's production of "Howard's End" for PR in Chicago area magazines, newsprint, posters, programs for the show, and web.
_______About My Approach:
My promotional theater photography is based in portraiture. I've been a performer most of my life-- so as a photographer I like to create unexpected moments through play and experimentation.
__________About my approach with this shoot:
Since it's a delicate, period piece, I wanted to create images that were airy, with soft contrast. I also wanted to show the relationship of the main characters who are sisters.
I used a bare-bulb behind them with reflectors so that there was as little direction to the light as possible. In developing the images, I went the opposite of my usual and desaturated just slightly to emphasize skin tones and the soft linen costumes.
Mackenzie, the Marketing Director, and the theater staff are happy-- and we're working on another preproduction campaign for Remy Bumppo's next show, "Top Girls".
