The task was to create a commemorative stamp pane to celebrate American state and county fairs.
The creative team decided to design a scene of familiar, traditional fair activities made up of four different stamps and repeat the scene five times down the pane. The style would be whimsical, meant to evoke a nostalgic feeling for America’s agricultural past and present. The challenge was to present a seamless panorama of the fair, while designing each stamp so that it could hold up individually. The artist, who rendered the illustrations digitally, was inspired by his own trips to fairs.
The result was a pane design that celebrates the American agricultural community and a favorite American destination. After eight months more than 16 million stamps had sold.
