G+A had the chance to redesign the yearbook of the world renowned Department of Architecture of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.
First, together with the editorial team, we simplified the structure.
The core of the book is a line up of almost 50 professors presenting students work and results of their own research. As the hole faculty is equally represented, contributions come from very different sources and viewpoints. The challenge is that the book should not present a staccato accumulation of things.
Second, we simplified the design.
A strong black and white attitude keeps the different positions, styles and aspects together. We interrupt the body of the book with additional facts and stories of everyday life on campus and beyond. These "refreshments" stand out as the only colorful contributions. All together, the 304 pages represent the complexity of a school as a striking unity.
