While the show’s premise is rooted in time travel and science fiction, the bulk of the storyline centers around uncovering the truth behind a mysterious migration of asylum seekers. Our task with the art was to position the show as a mysterious drama with a twist without casting it in the sci-fi genre.

Using provided and found assets, we set out to develop creative that infused the intrigue, drama and mystery of the show. We wanted to allude to the the origins of the asylum seekers (a time portal in the ocean) without it reading as a show about time travel or science fiction. We also wanted to incorporate a human element without overcrowding the art with the large ensemble cast.

We landed on an iconic solve that introduced important storytelling details in an ambiguous way that created curiosity about the storyline without giving away any specifics of the show’s premise. Using a single individual that is unrecognizable allowed us to introduce the cast without actually featuring any of them.
