The assignment was to design a series of posters that take a viewer back to a simpler time in growing up on a farm. The idea of "Work Hard and Stay Humble" appealed to the client as a starting point to the assignment. Size of posters to be 24" x 30" and 24" x 30".
Because I grew up on a farm in Fredericktown, Missouri, I remembered all of the exciting things about being on and around a farm. Things like getting up early and feeding the chickens, milking the cows, and chasing the pigs around the pen. For a boy growing up, there couldn't be more fun to be around your grandpa, being around animals, and raising your own vegetables in the garden. I decided to base my posters on my own experiences as a young boy and the idea of being a proud farmer, standing on a tractor, a cow, a pig and with his pet rooster. I also wanted to add a vintage, rough and antique feel to the art. I also used my 6 year old grandson as my model for the posters. There are so many good values to learn on a farm. It's a tough and hard working life, but a very rewarding life and I carried these values with me on this particular assignment.
The result was 5 beautiful posters that had that old time feel of growing up on the farm. They were very well received and used in the Old Country Store where there are all kinds of antiques, farm equipment. vintage photographs, nostalgic items and things that you would see around a farm.
