The assignment was to create a a completely original, captivating and symbolic one sheet design for the action movie series Kill Bill.
These simplistic designs combine the prominent violence of the two movies with symbolic elements from each. Kill Bill Volume 1 shows the silhouette of "The Bride" in her iconic fighting stance within a blood droplet. The droplet also alludes to the Japanese flag, since a majority of the movie takes place in Japan. Kill Bill Volume 2 shows the profiles of "The Bride" and Elle Driver face to face, alluding to their famously matched epic battle. The Honzo sword can be seen in between the two main drips of blood, which also serve as a roman numeral II for the second movie.
The final poster designs, in their final mock-ups, have proven successful. Thus far, this poster has received positive feedback from various professionals, including praise from an entertainment-focused art director at Canyon Design Group. I believe that the designs beautifully showcase the original concept in a simplistic and captivating way, and make a strong portfolio piece.
