In honor of Alabama’s 200th anniversary of statehood, we partnered with the Alabama Humanities Foundation to create the Making Alabama Poster Series. The objective of the Wonder Poster was to vividly capture the historical essence of Alabama from prehistory to the year 1700.
The Wonder Poster illustrates the predominant themes of early Alabama from prehistory to the Age of Exploration. Detailed, hand-drawn illustrations bring to life ancient life forms and indigenous civilizations. A boat on the horizon with Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto in the foreground signifies the arrival of European explorers. The poster tells the story of an ancient meteor strike, early agrarian societies and the rise of colonization all with vibrant illustrations.
The Wonder Poster has captured the imagination of thousands of Alabamians throughout the state. It is now used as a teaching tool for early Alabama history on field trips, museum visits and in the classroom.
