Create a poster that can be used to promote as well as commemorate the event.

The Artisan Guitar Show is an internationally-recognized event showcasing the work of some of the finest guitar makers in the world. The handcrafted, often one-of-a-kind work of more than 30 preeminent luthiers is exhibited. Also featured are master classes in performance and instrument construction by world-class experts. A concert series rounds out the event with performances by internationally acclaimed performing artists.

Since the craft of guitar making was the heart of the event, we decided to pay homage to John D’Angelico (1905-1964), one of the most celebrated American luthiers. As a master in the field, D’Angelico is a name familiar to all who would attend the event. The poster imagines the renowned instrument maker’s bench and reminds us of the traditional techniques fundamental to the modern luthier’s craft. The poster would also serve to commemorate the event, with a signed limited edition sold at the show.

Initial reactions to the concept and the design were extremely positive. We had developed a few approaches and quickly settled on 2 designs to present to the client. The client liked them so much that we followed through on producing both. Additional variations allowed for body copy, inclusive of event listings, schedules, and descriptions as needed.

Unfortunately the show was cancelled for 2020 due to the public health situation, but plans for the 2021 show are pending.
