The project aims to create a dynamic visual identity for Mount Wilson Observatory, a testament to Southern California’s long and illustrious legacy in astronomy, which was instrumental in changing the overview of the universe.
Approach
The visual identity embraces the particle and wave duality that is inherent to the movement of information through our universe. These ideas are reflected in the forms of the logo, which are dually reminiscent of the microscopic particle and the macroscopic celestial body. By adding or decreasing weight and extending or compressing the wavelength of the logo, the flexible form combinations are generated to represent different astronomical meanings and adapt to different use environments.
Results
The visual identity brings dynamism to the cultural entity as a destination for scientific research, historic preservation, education, public engagement, and the arts.
