In 18th century Britain, King Henry IIIV popularized the phrase “Sub Rosa,” or “Under the Rose,” which meant in secret or confidentiality. Roses were hung on doors and above banquet tables, signifying that anything said in that space shall remain sub rosa. This history is the inspiration behind the secret bar and private dining experience Sub Rosa. The restaurant is located underneath a small flower shop in Manning, South Carolina, and entrance is only permitted with possession of the secret Sub Rosa key.
