Development of a poster to announce the launch of “TOMOSHI”, unique lamp shades made of a single sheet of Japanese ｗashi paper. Since washi paper was added to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list, our assignment was to create a poster that appeals the uniqueness and beauty of the lamp shades created by the Japanese ancient technique of folding, not only to Japanese but also to overseas markets.
Name of the product “TOMOSHI” came from Japanese words “tomosu” or “touka” (light up) that leads to “a peace of mind”. Therefore, the poster design simply insisted the softness, flexibility and strength of washi paper. In photo shooting, we needed to capture and visualize the beauty of this product emitting the light similar to the natural light, through camera.
Inquiries from consumers increased after the poster release, and this led to the expansion of the market.
