Design a poster campaign for the theater performance To Be Or Not. Who is allowed to be, and who isn’t? Who decides that? During the urban theater safari To Be Or Not 1 the audience and actors (with and without a disability) make an adventurous journey through different areas of Rotterdam. Together they try to answer the most essential question: ’To Be Or Not?’. According to artistic leader Paul Röttger To Be Or Not 1 is the cultural answer to the society of participants. Röttger: ‚If we understand each other better, it is possible to achieve more. This theater production provides the opportunity to meet other people and to engage in conversation together. It is all about you and people who are different from you. Are people allowed to be different?’
For this theater production Studio Lonne Wennekendonk (SLW) made a series of posters. It shows portraits of actors, with and without a disability, who are part of the theatre production. In the design SLW played with visibility through the use of a yellow rectangle painted on the faces and background. Are you there, or not? The close-up faces show the beauty and vulnerability of everyone. With or without a disability. To keep the poster campaign simple and recognizable, SLW only used one form and the colors yellow, black and white.
To Be Or Not was a great success, all the performances were sold out in no time.
