Our task was to create the key art for season 2 of FX's dark comedy about parenthood, following the success of its first season. An additional challenge was to turn a rather standard vertical piece into a horizontal to be used on the sides of city buses.
Our main cast and family of four is seen in an oh-so-familiar "selfie fail" moment. The tight crop and "unposed" facial expressions appeal to the heart of the show, which strives to poke fun at real life family scenarios its audience can relate to. The tight crop employed in the vertical didn't prevent us from successfully creating the horizontal with the same assets: we were able to fit all four of our characters' faces into the piece while still conveying that they were taking a selfie together.
The in-your-face family selfie execution authentically represents the essence of the series, while remaining a hilarious piece of art on its own.
