Gunpla, a portmanteau of "Gundam plastic model," is the common name for plastic model kits depicting the mecha of the fictional Gundam universe by Bandai. Model builders worldwide enjoy assembling small plastic parts into their favorite Mecha characters.

We wanted to create a 3d motion campaign for gunpla that captures the imagination and inspiration it has brought to the world since the 1980s. Most importantly, the process of assembling and the joy of building all of the gunpla fans loved.

We started researching and imagining what a mecha hanger should look like in real life, then blocking out the space in 3d software for compelling camera angles—followed by lighting the hanger and the Gundam to make it seem enormous.

We want the motion piece to focus on the joy of building and the element of surprise when the model has completed, so we decided to create the "Misdirect" ending that shifts the scale of the Gundam from "Lifesize" to "model size" for maximum impact.
