The design was created for the poster of an event, International Buddhist Youth Exchange (IBYE) conference, held in Japan in 2015.
The goal of IBYE, which is a project of a worldwide organization called World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth, is to promote friendship and collaboration among young Buddhists around the world. The host of this annual international event this year was Japan and the theme that was selected was “Discover Japanese Buddhism.”

The motif of the design is the lotus flower which is said to symbolize Buddhism.
It was designed using traditional Buddhist print style and the coloration and patterns that are characteristic of Japanese Buddhism.

The five-day event was a great success and the design used for the poster was well received by the attendees.
The participants were given a letter-sized version of the poster to take home and share with those who were unable to attend the conference.
