This poster was created to generate interest and sales in The Curious Reader--a book of books and literature trivia. It was used in a marketing campaign to independent bookstores and as a promotion to libraries.

The book covers a huge amount of literary ground and is loaded with interesting facts. I wanted to reflect that in the design of the poster by including content that could not be read across the room. The 11x17 poster lists every classic novel profiled in the book and includes four literary trivia items related to the visuals. We knew these would be hung in intimate environments where viewers would likely be able to walk up to the poster to read closely. At the same time, I wanted the composition to be intriguing from a distance in order to draw the viewer in. I always loved Erik Nitsche’s poster for All About Eve and took some inspiration from it to activate my composition.

The poster received a strong positive response from independent booksellers and resulted in increased sales of the book. We’re hoping that its placement in libraries will support continued interest in reading classic literature.
