Combine two existing letters to create a new, unique letterform and document the entire process. Throughout the project, only 10 fonts can be used, 5 serif and 5 sans serif.
I first began with countless hand sketches combining the forms of the letters “f” and “j”, then I developed those into computer sketches and after numerous revisions, eventually arrived at my final design. This concluding design maintains the readability of original both letters, while simultaneously generating a new form entirely.
The result is a well designed book which takes the reader through my design process from beginning to end. Sections include an introduction, Hand Sketches, Digital Sketches, New Approach, and Final Design. 228 sketches are featured, all leading up to my final letterform.
