BRED was asked to create a poster to be included in this creative initiative—HopeWallRVA. HopeWallRVA, directed by Robert Carter, Ashley Kistler, and John Malinoski, is an international Wall of posters in downtown Richmond, Virginia addressing the overarching theme of HOPE for social and racial equality.
We experimented with creating a direct and straightforward typographic statement of HOPE. Using bright colors set against dense letterforms, we sought to formulate a dramatic visual response that also allows for a more subtle, secondary reading. Ultra-thin letterforms cut through the darkness that implies another, optimistic, rising interpretation of "HOPE."
This subtle, yet impressive intuitive, has created a small space where the creators are "hoping to create space for hope in challenging times."
