For my Motion Graphics class, I was asked to create a piece of animated typography for the letter H. It was required that the animation be looped.

The perpendicular construction of the letter H reminded me of the gridded 8-bit designs common to early video games. I was inspired by the classic game Galaga to create a fleet of spaceships that formed the letter H, and two 'player characters' tasked with shooting them down. Each individual ship animates on and off at different times, and the player ships are animated so that the 'bullets' come from the right places in order to hit at the right time. I also created a looping starry background similar to the one in Galaga.

I received an A on the project, and my professor noted that the loop of the animation was seamless. I am pleased with how the segmented artwork and animation speed make the graphics look convincingly 'retro.'
