The Vilcek Gold Award, created by the Vilcek Foundation and Arnold P. Gold Foundation, annually honors a foreign born individual who has had a demonstrable impact on humanism in healthcare. AHOY was invited to design the visual identity for the award program with annual updates, including print and online advertising, social media, print collateral, and the award sculpture itself.
We wanted to create a modern, minimalist award that expresses Humanism in Healthcare in a conceptual yet aesthetic way. We designed a heart composed of geometric shapes as the key visual for the awards program, and manufactured the shape out of 2 inch thick Acryl with six vibrant colors applied via silk screen to the back of the award, while printing the award information onto the front.
The award was incredibly well received by the Vilcek Foundation and the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, and by the award recipient Dr. Vivek Murthy, 19th Surgeon General of the United States, for his multi-faceted approach to addressing the opioid crisis in the United States, and for his continued advocacy and support of human- and community-centered care.
“One does not have to look far to find evidence of immigrant contributions to American society, and medicine is no exception,” said Dr. Jan Vilcek, CEO and Chairman of the Vilcek Foundation. “With the Vilcek-Gold Award, we are proud to honor immigrants in healthcare who serve the American public with both their hearts and their minds.”
