The book, split into chapters named after the different rooms in a theatre, connects to the theme of performance interwoven in Shary’s work. Outside the Palace of Me features over 150 full-colour images, a double-gatefold of Shary’s sculpture The Procession, a sewn-in booklet featuring a conversation between the artist and curator Crystal Mowry, an essay by Sequoia Miller, chief curator of the Gardiner Museum in Toronto, and a visual index of the photographic and art historical references that inspired Boyle’s work.
